School Fights, Disruption At School

By Kristina Porter

Everyone has at one time been a victim or a participant in a school fight, whether they realize it or not. If you witnessed one you may remember the excitement, and the fear of being injured or dragged into the frey. If you were a participant you were either the bully, or the one being picked on. I feel that school fights are a product of a disfunctional school system. Schools today allow to much socialization amongst the students and force students to congragate in large groups at lunch and between classes allowing them to break off into packs. Here they develope their own social hiarchies where there is an existing pecking order that is constantly changing. I think they need to go back to the original classroom settings where the teachers rotate between periods but the students remain in one class and one group. Lunch should be taken at there desk in a class room of no more than 30 so the atmosphere can be controlled by the teacher. Conversation and socialization during school time should be restricted so the students are focused on learning. The opportunity to advance or graduate early should be encouraged so students can join the workforce sooner. Socialization should be restricted to before and after school only or during school functions like footbal games. A classroom should be associated with learning only and not freetime. I feel this would eliminate alot of fighting and bullying. Students that do fight should be punished severly by being immediately removed to an isolation room where they learn via webcam from their original classroom. They take meals here and have no freetime. If they want to act like animals they should be treated like one and cut off from every other student to prevent disruption in the classroom. If the student is sent to the isolation room more than 3 times in a 30 day period they are to be removed from the school entirely and not allowed to return. If they don't want to learn why should they be allowed to hold their fellow students back.
