Local teen gunned down by police, was it unnessary force?
By Kristina Porter
"Joe Williams of Carbon Cliff, kisses the blood stained pavement in the East Moline alley where his cousin Kelton Trice was shot and killed by police Wednesday evening during what police investigators are calling an exchange of gunfire with East Moline Police Sgt. Tom Peterson. Mr. Trice died of his wounds at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, in Silvis. Sgt. Peterson was also taken to Illini and was held overnight for observation. He was released Thursday, April 17. Mr. Williams, crying, said he watched his cousin get gunned down by police officers. He said both he and Mr. Trice were in the park moments earlier. He said his cousin didn't have a gun on him. "My cousin didn't shoot at him once," Mr. Williams said. "I told you my cousin didn't have no gun."" is stated in our local paper. It has been all over the news. The people in this community say they fear being shot be the police after this incident. I say he got what he deserved. This article didn't mention the police officer that was shot as well. Obviously, someone had a gun or the officer would not of been shot. I understand the family is grieving for the loss of their member but they can not put the blame on the police force. They should instead wonder where it all went wrong, why he didn't immediately surrender. The police have enough trouble being short handed, long hours and in a high risk job. They shouldn't be trying to fight off lawsuits and slander left and right.
