Cradle Cap
By Kristina Porter
Cradle Cap is very common among babies. It is not a disease or illness. Cradle Cap is a skin condition that looks like rough, scaly, yellow patches on the scalp. Cradle Cap can also show up as red spots or an upraised rash on the face, back, neck and legs. Cradle cap is not a sign of bad parenting. Even the cleanest baby in the world can get cradle cap. Cradle cap is the normal build-up of dead skin cells, skin oils, and scales. Cradle cap is very easily treated. You should ask your pediatrician which treatment would work best for you. I used a common remedy prescribed by our midwife. She informed me to dilute a bottle of Head & Shoulders shampoo with water. 80% water and 20% shampoo. Then told me to carefully wash the baby's hair with it. DO NOT GET IN BABY'S EYES. It cleared up her Cradle Cap in one week and it never came back. There is also the options of rubbing your baby's head religiously with baby oil before every bath to loosen the scales. You can even use the baby brush to gently scrub her/his scalp during bath. Talk to your Pediatrician first before trying any remedy or treatment.
